The governor of middle Shabelle Mohamed Nuur, speaking to the media, stated that the operations involve joint efforts of the national army and HirShabelle forces to apprehend the criminals.
He said that good progress has been made, but the operations are still ongoing.
Mr Nur confirmed that the forces have succeeded in arresting two of the perpetrators and that others who fled are being sought.
The mayor of Ceel Baraf and several local elders have been detained whom the government suspects of negligence in their responsibilities following the incident.
The governor also called for vigilance regarding the results of the ongoing investigation and the ongoing efforts, in cooperation with the government.
The governor said’ I assure the Somali people and the family of the slain soldiers that this act was extremely unacceptable, and I urge them to remain calm, as the perpetrators, some of whom are currently in custody, will be brought before the law”.
It has been few days ago when clan militias from the local clan Abgaal have killed at least seven soldiers who were on their home for a duty leave. The armed militias ambushed them in the Ceel Baraf area of Middle Shabelle state.
