Kenyan forces, receiving reinforcements from various locations, repelled the attacking Al-Shabaab militants, who had initially crossed the border from Somalia’s Gedo region. Reports indicate that seven people were killed in the fighting, with four of them reportedly belonging to Al-Shabaab. Al-Shabaab has carried out attacks inside Kenya for the past several decades since Kenyan troops have crossed the border in to Somalia to create a buffer zone due to increased terrorist attacks in Kenya. The governor of middle Shabelle Mohamed Nuur, speaking to the media, stated that the operations involve joint efforts of the national army and HirShabelle forces to apprehend the criminals. He said that good progress has been made, but the operations are still ongoing. Seven soldiers and the driver of the vehicle they were traveling were killed while an eight soldier escaped the scene, according to eyewitnesses in Ceelbaraf who spoke to the media.
