Minister Abdelatty underscored Egypt’s backing to a ceasefire, and welcomed the decisions made by the Sudanese Sovereign Council to accelerate the delivery of humanitarian aid. Those are making more room for UN staff to carry out their missions, and establishing warehouses to store the aid.

The minister also stressed Egypt’s eagerness for the reactivation of Sudan’s membership in the African Union (AU) as soon as possible, and for supporting the country at regional and international organizations.

Regarding the displaced, Minister Abdelatty showcased that the Egyptian government had been preparing a number of public schools for senior Sudanese students to take high-school exams.

The talks equally covered water security, given that Egypt and Sudan are the Nile River downstream countries aiming for a legally-binding agreement on the operation of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). Similarly, there was congruence on the necessity of preserving Somalia‘s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity in the face of foreign interference, and empowering it to combat terrorism.
